Rafael Nadal vs David Ferrer: French Open Tennis 2012 Semi-fina

Rafael Nadal will face David Ferrer in one semifnal, and Novak Djokovic will take on Roger Federer in the other. No one can say they are surprised.
Nadal has been remarkably dominant throughout his run to the 2012 French Open’s final four, and there is no one left who will have the skill or the energy to stop his quest for a seventh title at Roland Garros.
His semifinal opponent, Spain’s David Ferrer, has shown well thus far, beating No. 4 seed Andy Murray to reach this stage. Even though Murray was seeded higher than Ferrer (No. 6), this result was fairly predictable.
Ferrer usually performs well on clay and he is 21-4 on the surface in ATP World Tour and Grand Slam matches this year. Murray, on the other hand, is 5-3. In addition, the Scot had struggled with back issues throughout the tournament.
Now, Ferrer will face Nadal and spectators are likely in for another predictable result. The two compatriots have faced each other on clay twice in the last two months, and Nadal won in consecutive sets both times. In addition, this is the first time Ferrer has reached this stage of the French Open.
115151710_crop_650x440
As for the other semifinal, this may end up being the marquee match of the tournament. The two faced off in the semifinal last year and treated the crowd at Roland Garros in to an epic match that Federer won in four sets.
Both have taken bumpy roads to get this far. Federer dropped the first two sets of his quarterfinal match against Juan Martin del Potro, but stormed back to win in five sets.
Djokovic has been pushed to a decisive fifth set in both of his last two matches, and was on the brink of elimination before pulling out a thrilling victory against Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarterfinals.
After working hard to stay alive in the tournament, both Federer and Djokovic will now have to play their most difficult match so far. The winner must still somehow have enough left in their legs to face Nadal, who will likely be in the finals.
Fatigue, or lack of it in Nadal’s case, will almost certainly be a factor in the final match. As ESPN.com notes, Nadal has spent a total of 10 hours and 37 minutes on the court in his five victories at Roland Garros. By comparison, Djokovic has spent eight hours and 27 minutes in order to take care of just his last two opponents.
The semifinal matchups could not be more favorable for the defending champion. Nadal will likely make quick work of Ferrer while Federer and Djokovic will ensure that the winner of their match will be exhausted for the final.
This will mean another dominant victory for Nadal at the French Open.

Novak Djokovic vs Roger Federer: French Open Tennis 2012 Semi-final

The Serb has never won at Roland Garros while the Swiss has won only once against a not so powerful opponent - Robin Soderling. Each of these fine players would be desperate to improve on his paltry record. Thanks to the almighty Spaniard Rafael Nadal these men have always found the French Open elusive. However, that doesn’t stop them from trying and here they are once more to claim glory in the king of all clay courts. Only one of them can reach the final and in all possibility will encounter Rafa. Will the Djoker avenge the loss he suffered at the hands of  the Fed-Express in the French Open semi-final last year? Or will the Swiss have the last laugh? Its game on at Roland Garros!
Head to head
The two gentlemen have met each other 25 times on court with the Swiss leading the head-to-head count 14-11. However, recent trends point toward Djokovic with the Serb winning five out of their last six clashes. He defeated Federer 6-2, 7-6 when they last met at ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Rome. With Roger’s recent form has been patchy and Djokovic at his peak, the odds seem to be stacked in favour of the Serb.
Route to semi-final
Djokovic was hardly troubled in the first three rounds of the tournament as he dispatched his opponents in style. A 7-6, 6-3, 6-1  victory over Potito Starace in the first round was followed by a 6-0, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Blaz Kavcic in the second round. After easily overcoming Nicolas Devilder 6-1, 6-1, 6-2 in the third round, Djokovic faced his first real test against Italian Andreas Seppi. Seppi shocked tennis fans worldwide when he was two sets up against the Serb but he couldn’t manage to stage an upset and lost the next three sets 3-6, 5-7, 3-6. Djokovic’s semifinal clash with Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is arguably one of the best matches of the tournament so far. The game see-sawed between the two before going Djokovic’s way. The Serb won the first set 6-1, before losing the next two sets 5-7, 5-7. In the fourth set, Djokovic controlled his nerves to save four match points and won 7-6. By the time, Tsonga was visibly tired and hardly mounted a challenge in the last set, capitulating 1-6.

Federer reached the semi-final after overcoming quite a few struggles. Though he was up against unseeded opponents in the first four
rounds, he did not post convincing victories. He defeated German Tobias Kamke 6-2, 7-5, 6-3 to enter the second round, in which he defeated Adrian Ungur 6-3, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 . In the third round game against Nicolas Mahut, the Swiss dropped the second set before winning 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. Promising young Belgian David Bolfin gave a shock to Federer when he won the first set of the fourth round 5-7. But Federer proved his class to win the next three games 7-5, 6-2, 6-4. Federer then pulled off a coup of sorts in the quarterfinal clash against Juan Martin del Potro. After losing the first two sets 3-7, 6-7, Federer came back superbly and pocketed the next three sets 6-2, 6-0, 6-3.
As Federer aims to win at Roland Garros for only the second time while Djokovic intends to be only the third player in history to hold all the four Grand slam titles at the same time, tennis aficionados can expect a classic contest between the two.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2nd Twenty20 Live Streaming Online 2012

Pakistan landed in Sri Lanka with a new captain and a new coaching set-up. But then some old problems returned to trouble them. In the tour opener, the Pakistan batsmen squandered a good opportunity to take a lead in the two-match series. On Sunday, they can at best aim to square the series.
Pakistan have enough ability and experience in their ranks to bounce back and level the series. For that to happen though, the batsmen will need to play a tighter game and rotate the strike more often - they played out 60 dot balls in their innings and crawled to 23 during the Powerplay overs.
Pakistan's bowlers were steady until the last few overs. However, the decision to play Mohammad Sami in the XI did raise a few questions. Players like Yasir Arafat and Hammad Azam, who are only part of the Twenty20 squad, could have been tested ahead of Sami, who has also been picked for the five-match ODI series.
Sri Lanka didn't play a great game, but were just a notch better - Thisara Perera and Angelo Mathews made the difference. Sri Lanka's top-order trio which sporadically fired in the IPL, failed on Friday night. However, Mahela Jayawardene, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara are as good as any in world cricket and if they can find some form, the talented middle order can put Pakistan under pressure on a slow pitch.
After a thumping win, Sri Lanka chose to stay away from practice on Saturday, while the Pakistan team trained in the evening. The match is expected to draw better crowds on Sunday as Monday is a public holiday in Sri Lanka.
Pakistan Squad (possible): 1 Mohammad Hafeez (capt), 2 Ahmed Shehzad, 3 Umar Akmal, 4 Shoaib Malik, 5 Khalid Latif/Haris Sohail, 6 Shahid Afridi, 7 Shakeel Ansar (wk), 8 Sohail Tanvir, 9 Mohammad Sami/Hammad Azam/Yasir Arafat, 10 Umar Gul, 11 Saeed Ajmal.
Sri Lanka may field the same XI that won on Friday.
Sri Lanka Squad (possible): 1 Mahela Jayawardene (capt), 2 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 3 Dinesh Chandimal, 4 Kumar Sangakkara (wk), 5 Angelo Mathews, 6 Thisara Perera, 7 Lahiru Thirimanne, 8 Nuwan Kulasekara, 9 Kaushal Lokuarachchi, 10 Lasith Malinga, 11. Sachithra Senanayake.

Australia vs Sri Lanka 3rd Odi 2011 Preview

Michael Clarke drives through the offside, Sri Lanka v Australia, 2nd ODI, Hambantota, August 14, 2011

August 16, Hambantota
Start time 14:30 (9:00 GMT, 19:00 EST)

Big Picture

The series is less than a week old, but it will be decided by Tuesday night if Australia continue their winning form after comfortably taking the first two matches. The eight-wicket victory in Hambantota on Sunday was almost a carbon copy of the opening win in Pallekele: Sri Lanka won the toss and batted poorly, failing to see out their overs, and then couldn't build any pressure on Australia in the chase. They must find their batting mojo if they are to keep the series alive heading in to the Colombo, where the final two matches will be played.
Sri Lanka's problem has been finding the right tempo. In the opening game, they went too hard and in the second match they were too cautious. Perhaps it will be third time lucky. Kumar Sangakkara looked solid in making a half-century on Sunday but he needs support from the three other key members of the top order: the openers Tillakaratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga, and the No. 4 Mahela Jayawardene. Maybe when Ajantha Mendis, Lasith Malinga and company have a decent target to defend they can impart some pressure on Australia's batsmen.
For the visitors, all has gone swimmingly, apart from Brad Haddin's struggle for form at the top of the order. Wickets have come from Doug Bollinger, Mitchell Johnson and Brett Lee, and the spinners have done their job of keeping things tight. Shane Watson, Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke have all been in the runs, and overall the side has been much more switched on than Sri Lanka. The question is, how will they fare if Sri Lanka find their spark?
Form guide

In the spotlight
A couple of former captains, Ricky Ponting and Kumar Sangakkara, have already posted half-centuries in this series, but Sri Lanka need some runs from another ex-skipper. Mahela Jayawardene hasn't looked at his best in the first two games, flashing at a wide ball from Mitchell Johnson and edging behind in the first, and top-edged a sweep in the second. But he is a class act, and it was only a few months ago that he scored a century in a World Cup final. A strong innings from Jayawardene would go a long way to getting Sri Lanka back into the series.
Everything has gone right for Michael Clarke so far in this series. In fact, ever since he took over the captaincy full time. He's led Australia to five wins from five games and his leadership in the field has been confident and well thought-out. The initial signs are positive for the post-Ponting era. Most importantly, he has been scoring runs and now has a pair of half-centuries in Sri Lanka to add to his 101 in Bangladesh in his first match in charge. As a steady presence in the middle order, he'll be an important player throughout the rest of the tour.
Team news
Suraj Randiv made way for Rangana Herath in the second match, but Herath had no impact with the ball and could be back on the sidelines for the third game. The batting is Sri Lanka's major concern, so they need to decide whether to stick with the existing line-up or bring in Chamara Silva, perhaps at the expense of Dinesh Chandimal or Jeevan Mendis.
Sri Lanka (possible) 1 Upul Tharanga, 2 Tillakaratne Dilshan (capt), 3 Kumar Sangakkara (wk), 4 Mahela Jayawardene, 5 Dinesh Chandimal / Chamara Silva, 6 Angelo Mathews, 7 Jeevan Mendis, 8 Suraj Randiv, 9 Nuwan Kulasekara, 10 Ajantha Mendis, 1a1 Lasith Malinga.
Australia's line-up has worked well in the first two matches, and there is no reason to make any changes while the series remains alive. Steven Smith hasn't batted and has barely been required to bowl, but the Australians like his versatility and the energy he brings in the field, so he is expected retain his position.
Australia (probable) 1 Shane Watson, 2 Brad Haddin (wk), 3 Ricky Ponting, 4 Michael Clarke (capt), 5 Michael Hussey, 6 David Hussey, 7 Steven Smith, 8 Mitchell Johnson, 9 Brett Lee, 10 Xavier Doherty, 11 Doug Bollinger.
Pitch and conditions
The Hambantota pitch was slow and low, and didn't have much grass on it, and was described by Clarke as a good wicket for batting. The players will be hoping the wind has died down by Tuesday, after Sunday's match was played in extremely breezy conditions.
Stats and trivia

  • Mahela Jayawardene will become the seventh man to play 350 one-day internationals
  • Australia have now won 23 of the 29 ODIs they have played under Michael Clarke's captaincy
  • So far in the series, Sri Lanka have lost 20 wickets, while Australia have lost five
Quotes
"We have to work on the batting ... work hard, come back strong."
Tillakaratne Dilshan knows exactly where Sri Lanka's problem lies.
"There's still a long way to go but these first two games have been very impressive both with the ball and with the bat."
Michael Clarke has been pleased with how Australia have started the series.                                          sourc for preview:cricinfo

Tale of the game
Manchester City have been tipped by many to push city rivals United all the way in the Premier League title race this term, and if they are to do so, they need to show their credentials against new-boys Swansea.
Brendan Rodgers' side are making their Premier League debut and will relish the chance to pit themselves against the richest club in world football, especially with a bright attack who were considered the Championship's great entertainers last season.
But Man City have a formidable defensive unit, and have added the rich talent of Sergio Aguero from Atletico Madrid to boost their attacking options. And when you add the combustible Mario Balotelli into the mix, it makes for an exciting City side that will want to make an immediate mark on the new season.
Captain Garry Monk is a major doubt for Swansea on Monday. The defender, who signed a new three-year contract earlier this week, is struggling with a foot injury and may have to wait for the home clash with Wigan to make his first appearance of the campaign.
Goalkeeper Michel Vorm comes straight into the squad after completing his move from FC Utrecht and will battle fellow new signing Jose Moreira for the starting berth.
Danny Graham, Leroy Lita, Wayne Routledge and Steven Caulker are also in line to make their debuts at Etihad Stadium.
Last season: N/A
Betting tip: City may be title favourites, but in the first game of the season, surprises can happen and with Swansea at 15-1 to win at Eastlands, that has to be worth a flutter.
